Professor Eduardo Fernandez-Duque received Premio Raíces award by the Argentine National Ministry of Science and Technology

Eduardo Fernandez-Duque, Professor of Anthropology and School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, received the “Premio Raíces” last week. The Premio Raíces is awarded by the Argentine National Ministry of Science and Technology to recognize Argentine scientists living abroad for their contributions to the development of science and technology in the country through international cooperation.  Since starting his research program in the Province of Formosa in 1996, Dr. Fernandez-Duque has contributed to the training of more than 300 students from Argentina, the US and 13 other countries through their participation in the Owl Monkey Project and/or field and classroom courses he organized. His research is centered on the study of the behavior, ecology and conservation of Neotropical Primates. He is also a cofounder of Fundacion ECO, a local not-for-profit organization that has played a prominent role in the establishment of a 1500-ha reserve for the protection of the gallery forests in northern Argentina. Fernandez-Duque is a corresponding member of the Argentine Council for Science and Technology (CONICET) and an Invited Professor of the Universidad Nacional de Formosa.
