PhD candidate David Wood published a paper examining infant care in Titi Monkeys in the American Journal of Biological Anthropology. This research examined the contributions of male and female monkeys to infant care. Titi monkeys practice “task specialization,” or the focus on unique tasks with minimal overlap. In this case, females gestate and nurse the young, while males carried them and shared food and were more likely to tolerate their proximity. By cooperating, Titi monkeys reduce the reproductive costs of the mother and likely produce positive reproductive outcomes for mother and infant.
