Postdoctoral Researcher Julia Arenson and Professor Eric Sargis are part of the team which recently published, Cercopithecid Monkeys From the Pleistocene Markaytoli Site at Ledi-Geraru, Afar Region, Ethiopia in the American Journal of Biological Anthropology.
The fossil assemblage they describe adds to a growing record of Middle to Late Pleistocene monkeys and contributes to our understanding of the origins of modern primate communities.
Their work places the Markaytoli assemblage into a critical but undersampled time period for the evolution of modern cercopithecids as well as for our own hominin lineage.
