Lav Kanoi
Lav is a PhD Candidate in the combined Department of Anthropology and Yale School of the Environment PhD program, where his current research centers on urban waterscapes in India. This study calls attention to the sociocultural, historical, political, and environmental aspects of water management in contemporary Indian cities. Lav is also a translator working across classical and contemporary Indian and European languages, and has published academic and creative translations of texts from Latin to English, and from Bengali and English to Hindi. He is a former Young India Fellow and has previously worked as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, a public-sector education specialist with the Government of Himachal Pradesh, and as a researcher and teacher at Jadavpur and Ashoka Universities. He is also an actor and a musician. Lav feels strongly about languages, the environment, and the many different things that go into the making of higher education.
