My research predominantly explores culturally informed strategies to reduce mental distress and suicide in low-income settings. As a qualitative methodologist and medical anthropologist, I aim to ‘make sense’ of suicide, investigating agency, personhood, and the sociocultural context that shapes its phenomenon. I also culturally develop and adapt community-based and health systems focused interventions to improve mental health and maternal health services. Our interventions integrate new technology. I also train graduate students in qualitative research methods, implementation science, and global health. I work with teams around the world with core field sites in Nepal and Pakistan.
