Kefilwe Rammutloa

I am an Africanist archaeologist that trained at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. I have collaborated in a number of archaeological projects across southern Africa, particularly in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, as well in Sudan and Mali. My previous work has focused interaction between hunter-gatherers, pastoralists and farming communities using 19th-century ceramics from the Khwebe Hills, Botswana. I have also studied trade and exchange in Southern Africa from AD 700 to AD 1300 through analysis of glass beads from the Indian Ocean Trade Network, as well as gold, copper and iron objects. My current research interests are aimed at understanding complex societies through the lens of past human, animal & environmental interactions, pastoral societies, nomadic communities, hunter-herding communities and indigenous knowledge systems. I also maintain active research on the preservation and management of tangible and intangible heritage and shared heritage.
