Jung-Che Lee

PhD Student

Jung-Che Lee is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Anthropology. He studies anthropological archaeology with a focus on pottery analysis and archaeometry in Neolithic East Asia. He received his MA in Anthropology in 2022 and his BA in Anthropology with a minor in Geology in 2020 from National Taiwan University.

Jung-Che’s master’s thesis examined the pottery traditions of the Zhishanyan (4000–3000 B.P.) and Yuanshan (3500–2300 B.P.) cultures in northern Taiwan. Combining petrographic, attribute, and XRF analyses in collaboration with the Paleoenvironmental Sediment Laboratory at NTU, he reconstructed paste recipes and technological practices of the two prehistoric traditions. His research revealed differences in pottery technology while also showing shared approaches to resource use, as both cultures obtained raw materials from the same volcanic region.

Research Interests:
Pottery Analysis; Geoarchaeology; Thin-Section Petrography; Archaeometry; Indigenous Archaeology; Public Archaeology; East Asia; Taiwan
